If anyone watched this Saturday's episode of Doctor Who and felt that the opening seemed vaguely familiar, you might want to re-read my short story: A Gift of Peace.

By the way, this is the third time that a scene from one my stories has ended up in Moffat's Doctor Who! First we had Edge of Doom and The Time of Angels, then we had Only Time and A Christmas Carol. Now, we have A Gift of Peace and The Doctor's Wife. I'm curious which story will show up next?

I just wanted to update everyone who's on my friends list.

I know it looks like I haven't been writing much lately; the truth is, I have been writing, just not fan-fiction. I've just completed a full-length novel that I'm going to be publishing as soon as it's revised and edited to my satisfaction. I have a second novel about halfway done, and I'm about five chapters into a third. The first novel is a retelling of The Phantom of the Opera, based entirely off the original book by Gaston Leroux, with a small amount of inspiration from the 1920s silent film. I'm not sure how many publishers will be interested in it, so I may end up using Lulu. The second is an original novel that's hard to classify, but I'll definitely be submitting it to an agent once it's done. It's a little bit science fiction, with a good dollop of romance, and a hint of political/spy thriller. The third is without a doubt romance in a strong sci-fi setting.

In addition to my novels, I've been writing freelance articles for an online trade journal, and I've been stockpiling articles and blog entries for my brand new sewing website that should be launched in another few weeks. I've recently become a sewing instructor, and this website will support that, with articles on all aspects of sewing, from how to draw your own fashion sketches, to using a ruffler attachment foot, to how to make an authentic Victorian costume.

As for my Live Journal, I will continue to make sporadic updates. All things sewing will be removed to my new website, but I will post all fan-fiction and art-related things here. I do have a few Doctor Who stories either in the works or just waiting on a beta-reader. I've also got a collection of Phantom of the Opera short stories that I never got around to posting here, along with a few one-shots from Lord of the Rings and Firefly, and all of my old stories from The X-Files, Beauty and the Beast, Quantum Leap, and Star Trek. Some of these are from before I learned to write well, so I will likely polish them up before I dare post them.

Anyway, I haven't forgotten y'all. I've just been really, really busy! :-D

Sketches & Watercolor

Here are some drawings I did several years ago. First we have Britainy, a sort of savage princess. Done with graphite pencils on plain sketching paper.

I just completed this floral still-life. It's an oil painting done with a palette knife, after Abena Hristova. I changed the colors a little--the original was more white and gray, which is entirely too 1980s for my taste. I warmed the color palette up to creams and taupes and I think the end result is quite pretty. I plan to hang it in my bedroom. (The pictures are a bit off, colorwise. I'm not sure what happened, but it's a lot warmer in tone, in real life.)

* Warning! * This Post Contains Mild Spoilers for The Time of Angels (episode 4 of Series 5)

Those who have read my stories may have noticed a similarity between the opening sequence of The Time of Angels and my fic Edge of Doom. I watched the beginning of the episode with a dropped jaw. The similarities cannot be a coincidence! I don't know whether to be ticked off that Moffat stole part of my story . . . or to jump up and down and squeal because Moffat read my story! And liked it! Enough to steal it. :P

Just to clarify, here's a comparison of Edge of Doom and The Time of Angels.

Seeing as how I haven't been writing much lately, I've decided to split this Journal in order to showcase some of my other talents, specifically art and sewing (usually historic costume, but some modern stuff as well). I will use tags, so those of you who are only interested in one of my hobbies can jump directly to those entries.

To get things going, I'll offer a list of sewing projects that I will soon be posting diaries of.
